The history of the railways of the north east of England is traced together with a look at the companies that came together to form the LNER. Filming covers the early locomotives as seen in preserved state and footage from the 1950s through to the 1990s showing steam, diesel and electric motive power, plus preserved locos 'Flying Scotsman' and 'Mallard'. This is a reissue of this popular programme previously in video format.
