The first of a series of five film programmes containing archive footage and tracing the story of steam locomotives during the middle years of the 20th century. This presentation starts at the amalgmation of companies to produce the 'Big Four' in 1923 and shows locomotives from all the constituent companies plus a look at the new types introduced during the 1920's.
